Colossians 1:15-20; Psalm 100 Luke 5:33-39
The words of Paul today, "Christ Jesus is the image of the invisible God..."
What a statement! That which is invisible is made visible. That which is eternal has entered our time. That which remains faceless now has a face.
To look on Jesus is to behold the face of God.
The greek word for image is more than just another representation but for Paul it means to fully participate in the reality.
We have many images in our life. We have photos of our loved ones we carry around to make present those who are absent.
We have art work from our children that remind us of their presence when we are apart form them.
We have souvenirs of places we have been to jog our memory lest we forget and lose that experience somewhere beneath our already crowded cerebral folds.
We have images all around us, In fact our life often times looks like a collage of images.
If some one were to know you only through the images they found in your house, what would they discover about you?
What would you images reveal to them about what is important in your life?
Images say an awful lot, more than words could ever say.
Perhaps this is why we needed something more than just words from God. Perhaps this is why the incarnation happens, and God becomes man and JEsus remains the image of the invisible God.
What does this image say to us? What does the life of Jesus really say about God?
Today, eliminate the words and just zero in on the face of christ and encounter the love of God. Today, try to let your life be the words you speak and the message you bring.
It worked for Christ, should it not work for us.
